Biography

d.k.d. was born into the nightmarish, suburban sitcom known as SoCal. Corn-fed and chicken-scratched, parochial schools brought him up quite nicely in this sunny, saccharine sweet paradise. Occasional glimpses of truth revealed to this lost youth that he's been stuck in some kind of Nick-At-Nite rerun hell. Every authority figure looks down from some kind of hideous power trip, and it's no wonder there's only 49 cards in d.k.d.'s deck. With every breath our blundering hero struggles to find a way to free himself from the shackles of hourly slavery in this suburban wasteland. A few, sacred talismans protect this pilgrim as he journeys down the path of least resistance with a head full of multicultural prayers and Marxist slogans. Blessed with a vision that drives one mad, this gypsy bears witness to the exploitation of the low-wage labor base in every sweatshop, home, office, and agricultural field. This ticking time bomb of insanity encourages you to return and check out this website again, just to make sure his head hasn't spontaneously combusted. Cuz if this head does explode then there's gonna be poo everywhere.

"There is no end,
only a change of worlds."
-Indigenous American Proverb

every night we return to a world of dreams
while our body recharges.
when the Big Sleep
takes my body away
my spirit will journey
deeper into the world of dreams

(as you) participate with joy
in the sorrows of this world."

"Yesterday's Friend"
when I was a child
I used to carry around
a magnifying glass
that would focus rays of light,
intensely,
on a beautiful creature
from time to time.

At first,
the creature
squirmed & writhed
in ecstasy,
because it felt
so good
to be
so warm,
so quickly.

but after awhile
the concentrated sunbeams
became a death ray.

the warmth started to burn,
as the ecstasy faded,
the fire began to consume
my poor little friend

when the death ray
drove her away,
she flew
to a dream world
of safety.

I pray
that my friend is safe
and I know that her heart
burns brightly,
too.

rhythmic, pulsating bodies
weave in and out of control
as the euphoric children
endlessly dance
on the redemptive side of pain.

the fire within
blazes
and burns out
only to be
born again.

layer upon layer,
beat upon beat,
pain upon pain,
mind upon mind,
heart upon heart,
vibrations push and pull
so close
that they almost feel real.

they move and groove
until they no longer ache,
as something pushes them
beyond all fatigue.

this throbbing existence
burns in every creature
so continue moving,
continue grooving
while you still can.
listen to this pulsating rhythm
while the life-renewing blood
still pumps through your veins,
and the sacred fruits of the earth still quench
your endless desire.

creatures of the night
spin and circle and bounce and pound
while they bob and weave
through joy and pain.

the endless ecstacy
and the incomprehensible misery
fade into the sunrise
where the night goes to bed
and the day awakens.

slowly but surely,
all these opposites
bleed into each other,
as they
rotate, attract, and repel.

a beautiful, innocent
phantasmagoria
pierces your eardrums
as all this illusion
melts into the same Great Mystery

"funeral speech"

the mistake
everyone of us makes
is expecting the other person
to stay

so let's take care
of our dear friends
while we still can.
as these weary pilgrims
journey down
the path of life

let's not tie them
to our hearts with grief

just let them rest
in the sanctuary
of our embrace

And when they must leave
let them go
and wish them peace
as they travel on

"goddess statue"

a woman's light, airy dress
clings to her body
like a veil
that disguises
the mystery
of the endless, sensual worlds
which lie hidden
in the heaven
of her mind

prayers
may awaken
these sleeping worlds of pleasure
and a devout pilgrim
may be rewarded
with the warm shelter
of a sacred sanctuary
that lies beyond
the suffering
of the real world

"she flies away"

a light-hearted fairy
with laughing eyes
looks within
as she searches
for heaven on earth

flying forward
her mind wanders
and she remembers
we are not fallen angels, chained to fate.
but we are all naked children, free from sin.

every precious pair of eyes
that she meets
smile with a kindness
that radiates
from deep within
